VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Basic Function: The Volunteer Coordinator provides for the recruiting, training, retention and recognition of volunteers for Fluvanna Meals on Wheels. This position is part time (20 hrs.) with no benefits, however there are paid holidays and paid time off after probationary period. Typical work hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-12:30

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible to either perform the duties listed below or ensure that they are accomplished by appropriate volunteers.

Basic Duties:

  • Responsible for initial volunteer contact and training of new volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteers for monthly scheduling of kitchen, delivery and office.
  • Coordinate substitute volunteers throughout the month and occasionally at night or on weekends.
  • Responsible for filling in for kitchen and/or delivery for volunteers if needed. (reliable vehicle is a must)
  • Coordinate volunteers for fundraising events and special projects.
  • Follow up with volunteers throughout the year that have not volunteered.
  • Maintain Volunteer database.
  • Revise volunteer forms, procedures, materials as necessary.
  • Coordinate and plan Volunteer Appreciation.
  • Attend webinars/ training/ conferences per Executive Director.
  • Coordinate with Client Services Committee Leader.
  • Coordinate kitchen and maintain kitchen standards.
  • Cross train with Office Administrator and Client Coordinator to cover office.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Skills and Personal Characteristics:

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva)
  • Experience in coordinating in a volunteer environment
  • Act as a nurturer and trainer
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to deal well with stressful situations and a wide variety of people
  • Flexibility to work occasional events that may occur on evenings or weekends
  • Organized and efficient, with attention to detail and follow through
  • Delegation skills
  • Reliable, honest, able to maintain confidentiality
  • A belief in the team approach to the work environment, and ability to commit to the mission of FMOW and make a difference in your community.
